Hello Everyone,
On Sunday, August 24th, there will be an open meeting with the MGVB officers from 4-4:45 at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes for suggestions regarding the Fall 2008 MGVB League. Depending on headcount, please be prepared to keep your suggestions brief as we will need to move the meeting along since play begins at 5pm.
If there is any constructive criticism, feedback, or concerns that you would like to share regarding past seasons, please email Ryan Frazier, Director of Player Satisfaction at vettech_ry@hotmail.com, Brett Wilson, Assistant Director, at brettcwilson1@hotmail.com, or reply to myself. We will have an online survey posted to the website next week regarding our summer league. All feedback from everyone on this will be greatly appreciated and reviewed.
Thank You,
Bob Converse - Director, MGVB

Bowl-A-Vard Lanes from 6pm-9pm on Saturday, September 13th.
We will have food (brats, burgers, picnic-like menu) as well as the free 1/2 barrel or whatever has have earned by the end of league play on Sunday, August 24th. This will be more of a social event this year, with some prizes being given out and team and individual recognitions.
We have decided to have our Fall, Winter, and Spring Leagues at Pooley's this year, beginning Sept 21st.
This will now be on Sunday evenings, rather than Friday evenings. Pooley's is located on the far east side on the opposite side of the interstate from Bowl-A-Vard on High-Crossing Blvd. The location, cost, and availability helped influencing the decision to go with Pooley's. This will be after bowling and during hockey. We have some bowlers on Sundays, so we will try to schedule games after bowling (after 5:30pm). We don't have too many cross-overs with hockey, so that helped in the decision, too.
We are looking into keep the league split for Fall. We would like to have our regular league as recreational, where you can sign up as a team or individual as we have done in the past. We are also looking into creating a more-advanced division to learn more competitive plays and proper ball handling. This league would be more of a "lottery" league where you can sign up for this league and teams will be determined the first day of league play.
Each session will last 10 weeks. The first week will be a week to learn, practice and to meet your new team players, if you are assigned a new team. There will be 7 weeks of league play and two weeks of tournament play. The cost will remain $60/player. Deadline for sign-ups will be around Sept 13th. For the Fall Session, we will be purchasing tickets for one WI Women's Volleyball game to all go together to see as a league for interested Fall League players.
We have a position open on the Madison Gay Volleyball (MGVB) Board of Directors, Director of Sponsorship. If you are interested in this position, please let me know as soon as you can, preferrably before Sunday July 27th. You do not necessarily have to play on the league to be considered for this position. This would also be a great way to get involved if you don't play but would like to help expand MGVB!
Duties Entail:
*Obtaining sponsorships to help bring in revenue for the league.
*Build a positive relationship with our sponsors and the league.
*Work with Director of Fundraising to help establish fundraisers at sponsorship locations.
*Attend Officer Meetings, provide feedback and input, & vote on league-related issues
*Chair a sponsorship committee
*Inform Director and Assistant Director of all sponsorship activities, potential new sponsors, and sponsor concerns.
If you have not added Madison Gay Volleyball (MGVB) to MySpace or Facebook,
please add yourself! This will be the quickest way to expose MGVB to your friends!

With Madison's success, the idea came across to expand this into additional local areas or districts to create a statewide association!
These leagues will be open to all levels of play; from the very beginner to the power player. Each district will be asked that the power players will help coach the newer players so that all players will improve and sharpen their volleyball skills. Interested players will be allowed to sign up either individually or they may create their own team. This would be great not only for the local/district level, but for the state level and for NAGVA (North American Gay Volleyball Association) participation in their tournaments they hold.
Official start dates for each district are yet to be determined, however targeted to begin around April or May of 2009. Assistance in helping create the league in your area such as membership, interest, location, sponsorships, fundraising, advertisement, etc would be greatly appreciated.
If you are interested in helping out as well as becoming a director for your district, please email one of these emails (that pertain to your district)and indicate if you would like to be added to the distribution list for each area:
director@eauclairegayvolleyball.com
director@lacrossegayvolleyball.com
director@stevenspointgayvolleyball.com
director@foxvalleygayvolleyball.com
director@milwaukeegayvolleyball.com
director@racinekenoshagayvolleyball.com
director@madisongayvolleyball.com
We have created a Wisconsin Steering Committee on Facebook for Facebook users that are interested in helping get this started. Invitation to this group is by invitation only, so please include your interest in joining this group in the email you send me or you may email Dale Daulo, publicrelations@madisongayvolleyball.com, and you will be added.
Under WGVBA (Wisconsin Gay Volleyball Association), we may be named individually as:
WGVB-Madison
WGVB-Eau Claire
WGVB-La Crosse
WGVB-Stevens Point
WGVB-Fox Valley
WGVB-Milwaukee
WGVB-Racine/Kenosha
*We may add either Fond du Lac/Sheboygan or have Janesville/Beloit become an eighth district.
The target timeframe to have directors for each district is by the end of October/early November or so, so that there is ample time for league preparations.
It is also the vision that each district's director will automatically become a state officer on the Wisconsin Gay Volleyball Association board. Once all districts have their directors, we will all meet and vote in officer positions. How we do this will be discussed at our first meeting, which will probably be held in Madison.
Directors will be in charge of finding officers for their individual boards. All of the emails, MySpace pages, and everything pertaining to the district will be passed off to each director.
This is very exciting and I hope that with a great response rate, interest, and planning, we'll kick off 2009 with a great start! A State Gay Volleyball Tournament & Banquet will also be in the works.
