Summer League MGVB Match Profile

Rules and Regulations

All rules and regulations are subject to be modified, cancelled or new rules added at anytime per the discretion of the officers.

Game times/Forfeits

Matches will begin 10 minutes from the time courts become available for league play. Teams must be prepared to begin play at that time. Any player may act as captain for the purpose of the coin toss. All teams not available for play at the start time will forfeit game one of the match. Fifteen minutes after courts become available, all teams not available for play will forfeit game 2 and the match. A minimum of 4 roster players must be present for a team to be considered available. Forfeits will result in a score of “0” for all three games and will be recorded as 3 losses for the match. If neither team is eligible to begin play, both teams will record a sore of “0” for the match and both teams will receive a record of 3 losses for the match. A team may play with five players; four roster players must be present. A team may not start or continue play with less then 5 players. In the event that a player is injured, and four roster players were present to begin the match, a sub player may be added and the team will be considered eligible to complete the match with less then 4-roster players.

Scoring

Match play will consist of Rally Scoring, a point awarded for every serve, with the exception of a replay. Scoring for games 1 and 2 will begin at 4 and play to 25. A team must win by 2 points and no cap will be placed on games 1 and 2. Game three will begin at “0” and play until a score of 15. A team must win by 2 points and a cap of 17 will apply. Teams will switch sides of the net in game 3 when the first team reaches a score of 8.

Court Activity

Teams may use unoccupied courts for the purpose of practice or warm up. Teams will be allowed a minimum of a five-minute warm up before each match begins. At start time, teams will be asked to clear the courts and remain at the service line on the appropriate side. A player/captain will be called to the officiating tower and the flip will take place. When the officiating teams are in position, the Referee will call the players to the court and players will be expected to report to their starting positions. Play will begin immediately. Each team will be awarded one time out per game, 30 seconds each. If the score advances beyond 30 points, each team will be awarded one additional time out. Between games 2 and 3, a three-minute break may take place if both captains agree. This will not be added to the total game time should game time run out. The referee may stop the game at any time. If the referee stops the game, teams may huddle on their court, however teams may not leave court. If a team or team member leaves the court during a referee time out, the team will be penalized a time out. A three-minute time out will be employed in the event of an injury. A team will have three-minutes to decide if the injured player will continue or be replaced. (Please see Game Times and Forfeits for ruling). A player will not be eligible if blood is visible, that decision is to be made only by a Volleyball Officer, not the referee, unless the referee is an officer. First aid kits are provided at court site. If a player is injured and requires first aid as a result of bleeding, he may be allowed to re-enter the game once the blood is no longer exposed. This decision is to only be made by an officer. The first aid must be done in the three-minute injury period. If this cannot be done, the game will resume and the injured player will be allowed to re-enter the game in the back row center position between plays. If a player is removed from the game for any other injury, the player will not be allowed to return to that game, but will be eligible for remaining games of the match.

Out of play

A ball will be considered out of play if a player contacts any apparatus prior to contacting the ball. If a player precedes more then to the net before or after contact of a ball, the ball will be considered out of play and a side out will be awarded to the opposing team. . If a player completes a play by having to move to the patio area behind the courts, the ball will be considered out of play and a side out will be awarded to the opposing team.
The referee or a line judge will call this play.

League Substitutes

For someone to be considered a league substitute, they can not be listed on the current player roster. We will have a list and contact information for substitutes that you may use, in addition to current league players. For new players interested in substituting in, the cost will be $10 for a day or $30 for the season. A registered substitute can fill in for any team and that player will count equally as if they are on the roster for that team, that day. Substitutes are not guaranteed to be asked to play with a team, are not guaranteed to play even if they show up, and registered league players not playing a match take precedence over a substitute. A substitute must pay their $10 or $30 before being allowed to play during league play. Payment can be given to any officer for those that are paying $10; a $30 payment can be given to Bennie Darling or Bob Converse so they are registered with the league as a substitute. A $10 league substitute would not be on the official league substitute list, but would count just for the one day as if they were registered. Please ask an officer if you have any questions regarding substitutions
